MEMBERSHIP

Why should I join GPDA?

  • Membership is easy - fill out a form (available at monthly meetings)

  • Membership is inexpensive - $20 annually per household

  • Includes a copy of the GPDA music packet, either paper or electronic (for use with tablet).  This includes standard notation and mountain dulcimer tab.  Also includes TablEdit playable files for private practice (download or play online)

  • Receive email updates on GPDA activities

  • Access to GPDA Calendar

  • Access to photo albums of GPDA activities

  • Get help with your instrument, at meetings, jams or find a private instructor

  • Find a friend to jam with - playing with a friend(s) better than playing alone; you will be challenged and expedite your learning curve.

  • Attend regular jams.  Playing in a group helps you with timing and confidence.

  • Opportunities to perform for others

  • Most importantly, meet people who have a shared interest in traditional music.

GPDA sponsors one open jam each week on Tuesday evenings from 7:00 - 9:00, at the Woodlawn United Methodist Church, on the corner of Woodlawn and Kay streets in Derby, KS.

Many of our members jam from 7-9 p.m. at the Donut Whole (1720 E Douglas Ave, Wichita, KS), on the 1st and 2nd Mondays of each month, and at Damm Music (8945 W Central Ave, Wichita, KS), on the 3rd, 4th and 5th Mondays of the month.

Our monthly meetings also provide opportunities to jam.  Everyone loves to play together!

GPDA’s main focus is the hammered dulcimer and mountain dulcimer, but we welcome other traditional instruments as well.  There are numerous other traditional instruments represented among our members, including:

  • Mandolin

  • Octave Mandolin

  • Open–back Banjo

  • Guitar

  • Fiddle

  • Autoharp

  • Accordion

  • Dobro

  • Bodhran

  • Baroque Recorder

  • Marimbula

  • Penny Whistle

  • Jaw Harp

  • Spoons

If you play or are interested in learning

to play a traditional instrument, GPDA is a great place to start!
